One of the research topics in the field of video signal processing and transmission is the development of algorithms for the source coding of image and video signals. Particular attention is paid to the coding of very high-resolution video signals under the boundary condition of imperceptible quality losses as well as the scalable and fault-tolerant video coding. Furthermore, we are concerned with the quality improvement of noisy or disturbed received video signals and develop methods for transcoding video data into different standards. As part of the image and video analysis, we work to gain and use meaningful features for the detection and tracking of objects in video signals. Finally, signal processing in multi-camera systems is another important research topic, where we develop algorithms for the scalable representation and archiving of such data sets and the calculation of artificial intermediate views at the receiver.
